Angela Schuurmans

Angela has been figure skating since she was 8 years old. She competed up to Junior level, taking part in several National Championships in the mid-80’s. She then took a break to focus on her University degree, career, and raising a family. In 2015, Angela returned to the ice to re-train and compete in the Australian Masters Games, winning gold in Adult Silver Ladies. Since then, she has competed in adult competitions locally, nationally and internationally, winning gold in Oberstdorf in 2019 and at the World Winter Masters Games in Innsbruck, Austria 2020 and Italy 2024. She has been a coach since 2019, and now offers private lessons in ice dance as well as singles skating. Angela loves having the opportunity to coach and watch young skaters and adults grow in confidence as they learn new skills.

I am most proud of personal achievement – whether it is my own,
when I competed overseas, or the achievements of my skaters when I see them perform
better today than they did yesterday.

I believe a coach’s role is not only to teach the technical skills of skating but also support the mental wellbeing of the skater, encouraging a positive attitude and respect in all they do. I believe everyone should be able to learn and train in a friendly and supportive environment, regardless of their age or ability – the ice is there for all of us!
